Install

The source release is in preparation. These guides describe the Community edition as it will ship. Commands that need the public installer are marked.

Before you start

You need a fresh 64-bit server with Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 LTS, or Debian 12, at least 2 cores, 2 GB of memory and 30 GB of free disk. You also need root access over SSH, and ports 22, 80, 443 and 8000 open in any firewall in front of it.

Use a server that runs nothing else. The installer sets up Docker and a reverse proxy that takes over ports 80 and 443.

Run the installer

Connect to the server over SSH and run:

Available at the source release
curl -fsSL https://dekota.org/install.sh | sudo bash

The installer checks the system, installs Docker if it is missing, downloads the console and starts it. It takes two to five minutes and ends by printing the console address.

Create the first account

Open http://your-server-ip:8000 in a browser. The first account you create is the owner of the instance, so do this straight away, before anyone else can reach the page.

Give the console a domain

In Settings, set the instance domain, for example https://console.example.com, and point that name's DNS A record at the server. Dekota requests a certificate, and after that you can close port 8000.

Turn on two-step sign-in for your account under Profile before you add servers or invite anyone.

Add more servers

The console's own machine can run apps too. To deploy elsewhere, go to Servers, add the machine's address and paste the public key Dekota shows into that machine's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. Dekota checks the connection and installs Docker there.
